Mandatory AI training for companies comes into force in February

In 2024, the EU adopted the new AI Regulation, which came into force on July 21. In terms of content, it deals with various regulations on dealing with artificial intelligence, which must now be implemented in stages.

This gradual implementation is intended to help companies to gradually prepare for the new requirements.

The time has now come in February and the first implementation stage is imminent.

This requires all companies that use or come into contact with artificial intelligence as part of their business activities to train their employees by 02.02.2025. The purpose of the regulation is to ensure that employees have a sufficient level of competence in dealing with artificial intelligence.

What does this mean for you?

If there are points of contact with AI in your company, then you are subject to this training obligation. These points of contact already exist even if you only partially use services such as ChatGPT.

Certain practices will also be prohibited from February. These are set out in Art. 5 of the AI Regulation. Here too, the appropriate training can save you from high fines. According to this regulation, these can amount to up to €35,000 or 7% of global annual turnover.

If your company has a direct or indirect connection to the NIS 2 Directive, then these awareness-raising measures are even more important for you.

The other implementation stages will then follow in the summer of this year and by August 2027.

So familiarize yourself with the regulations at an early stage and ensure that your employees receive the appropriate training. You are obliged to do so under Art. 4 of the AI Regulation. As personal data is almost always processed when using AI, GINDAT, as your data protection officer, will be happy to assist you in this regard at any time.
